Al l our campers loaded the buses for Camel Beach this morning and off they went with beach towel and backpacks in hand… Until… the rain came and then we went with plan B. We were off to the movies. It was Montage Mountain for a matinee.

We are so proud of all our campers as they went with the flow and were fantastic today.

The campers returned to a GIANT pizza party in the dining hall.

All in all it was a great day and we are looking forward to what tomorrow will bring.

A Marvelous Monday at Camp CHEN-A-WANDA

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

The weather was perfect, the campers were happy, the activities were going, the games were being played & friendships were growing. Another glorious day of activities was happening at our beautiful camp.

School of Rock is in full swing. There were guitar, keyboard and drum lessons happening today. The campers were also getting vocal lessons and loved singing with one another. Many campers had the opportunity to record tracks in the recording studio. Campers are making their very own demos and will be bringing home their own CD’s. Our music program is becoming one of the most popular here at camp. We are so thrilled to be able to offer this new program to our campers.

The campers jumped around tonight at our mass Dance Dance Revolution evening activity. They worked up a sweat and competed with one another to be the named DDR king & queen.

Our camp has never had this much spirit, this much enthusiasm, this much excitement. CHEN-A-WANDA is alive with spirit.

Everyone is getting psyched for our first trip tomorrow, Camel Beach here we come!

We had a full day of activities and the camp was buzzing with great energy and excitement. We had late wake up today and the campers really enjoyed our Sunday schedule. After our first full week we needed that extra hour sleep.

Chenny Idol auditions continued for upper camp and their eye is on the prize. We have some fantastic talented singers and we are all excited for the big show.

Not only do we have talented campers but our staff showed off their abilities last night at our STAFF TALENT SHOW. The campers cheered on their counselors as they sang, danced and humored us with their comedy.

Our Senior girls were the first to sleep at Chenny Village. They sang songs, told stories, roasted marshmallows and had a fantastic time. They loved it.

We looking forward to another great day.

It was Spirit day at CHEN-A-WANDA

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

Not only did we celebrate the 4th of July today, but we also honored the world. Each bunk was decked out in spirit garb. Some celebrated Israel and dressed as rabbis, some dressed as Spartans showing their loyalty to Sparta, others were draped in Togas in honor of Greece.. Groups sang songs, chanted throughout camp and everyone got into Spirit Day. You couldn’t help feel the spirit. It was contagious.

023 Spirit Day 023

The weather was beautiful and we spent the afternoon at our beach party. There were water balloon tosses, kids chilling on the lawn, swimming in the pool, climbing up the ice berg and jumping on the water trampoline.

We had a delicious BBQ outside tonight and the campers loved to eat our red white and blue cupcakes & watermelon. After dinner, we all headed up to the baseball fields and had mass co-ed camp softball games.

Then it was off to evening activity where the campers watched our head counselors and group leaders perform hilarious skits about the Independence of America. The show ended with all the group leaders having a pie eating contest.

As the night grew darker, we all walked up to the outside amphitheater and were dazzled by the most AMAZING firework show ever!!! It was in our own backyard and the kids LOVED it. One of the most memorable 4th of July’s I can remember and from the reaction of the campers and staff, this definitely goes down as the best 4th of July CHEN-A-WANDA has ever seen.

A great day and one that we will always remember.

Today was a fantastic day at camp. All the campers had a full day of activities. The waterfront was the place to be. Campers were in the aqua park climbing the ice berg, jumping on the water trampoline, knee boarding, fishing and swimming. Those who weren’t interested in the water were having a great time making sand castles on the beach.

The juniors, middies and inters kicked off our Chenny Idol auditions today. It was a great turn out. The talent was supreme and the judges’ job will be quite difficult. The winner of Chenny Idol along with his/her bunk will receive Star treatment as they will be driven to a nearby restaurant in a limousine. There is quite a buzz on camp about this great event.

The evening activity was amazing. The campers were treated to a phenomenal break dancing show by In the Clutch. They spinned, twirled, popped and wormed across the stage. The campers loved the show

We are looking forward to our 4th of July celebrations tomorrow. Beach parties, pie eating contests, swimming and more.
Until tomorrow..

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

We started off today gathered in the Rec Hall organizing every division to take our camp photos. You will all be receiving these photos on Visiting Day.

After the photos, the girls continued practicing for Sign & Song. All across main campus were groups of girls laughing, rehearsing and getting their program down pat.

Upper Boys went out to the movies this afternoon and had a fantastic time. They got back to camp just in time for dinner.

Arts & Crafts was busy busy busy filled with campers & counselors who were putting together the finishing touches on their bunk signs. The pride that was taken into each sign was fantastic. Wait until you see them. Tonight’s show was spectacular. The tradition and high standard of Sign & Song was upheld tonight. Each girls bunk performed a dance to a song based on their bunk letter. From our littlest juniors to our CIT’s, they worked hard and it showed.

The following awards were given:

  • Lower Camp Girls “Best Sign” was awarded to Bunk E (Mini-Juniors).
  • Lower Camp Boys “Best Sign” was awarded to Bunk D (Juniors).
  • Upper Camp Girls “Best Sign” was awarded to Bunk Q (GC’s).
